Reel 2 Real Festival favourite Jeff Chiba Stearns explores the complexity of family and heritage in this feature documentary. Growing up in Kelowna, Jeff constantly questioned his identity as a “banana milkshake,” a term sometimes used to describe children who are of half Asian and half Caucasian descent. Intrigued even further to discover that nearly all Japanese Canadians marry inter-racially, he set out to find out why. This film is unique in its approach to incorporating post-war history into a personal narrative. Recommended for ages 8+
